When framing board (up to about 5mm thick) without perspex or backboards, spring clips can be a good way to secure your art to prevent movement within the frame. They can be purchased separately, just let us know when you order.

While we mainly sell complete frame kits, sometimes it suits customers to just buy a frame or ’chops’. Hobby framers may cut their own mat boards, glass and backboards which are easily made from MDF. In these circumstances chops can be a very cost effective way to frame. It is important to remember though that the frames may be much heavier with glass and MDF so they should be braced if they are large (generally over a metre) and safety should be paramount.

The other time chops are a good framing option is when used to frame paintings on board or canvas on board. If you are using them for this purpose please let us know as you may want to use spring packers which we can supply as an extra.

What is included with chops?

When you order chops, you will be supplied with a complete frame (four pieces), corners to suit(4x) and euro hangers (x2). Packers, wire and additional hardware are not supplied. If you need any additional hardware please discuss your needs when ordering.
